Detecon Alumni today: Alexander Luyken

When did you work for Detecon? In what role?

I was with Detecon from 2006 to May 2013 in different roles that ranged from an intern to diploma student and later to Senior Consultant. That was in the CRM area then still in the "Operations & Performance" practice, later in the DTAG cluster and in the knowledge community CRM, Sales & Service.

Which were your most exciting Detecon moments?

There was this one moment on a Friday. I was an intern back then and had just noticed that from Monday to Thursday there was a yawning void in the consulting offices. The only person I saw during the day was the cleaning lady, and I celebrated her brief presence as the social highlight of the day despite the annoying vacuum cleaner.

On that Friday, however, the office was briskly filled and I enjoyed the presence of colleagues and their anecdotes about their assignments on the customer front. One reported how another employee (of course from another company) boasted that he had already fought on five continents with 'bare swords', without suffering any wounds - in the figurative sense, of course. Another colleague had heard that someone (from another company, too) had managed to distil alcohol using the hotel room's air conditioning. Then, suddenly, the enthusiastic voice of a colleague resounded across the hall: "Who wants to go to Cairo?

And I understood that Detecon was anything but monotonous. A few months later I was on a plane, not to Cairo but to Athens. There, my first project and some surprises were waiting for me.

And what are you doing today?

At Deutsche Telekom, I'm currently working on establishing new forms of cooperation. Social media and the constant changes of physical working environment are two aspects of this. My topics also deal with the question of how to promote corporate pride. Our credo is: Work differently and inspire our customers! In addition, I recently started working in the field of content marketing.

What did you particularly appreciate about your job at Detecon and what do you miss from this time?

At Detecon, only you are the limiting factor of your own career. No vacancy needs to be filled to be promoted or to develop further. Your own performance is decisive for your professional development. This may sound natural, but in most companies it is rather the exception outside of consulting. Therefore, I often recommend newcomers to the profession to take their first steps in consulting.

In which 3 hashtags do you describe Detecon?

1. #Pride - Detecon has a very proud corporate culture compared to other companies. That is great, even as alumni!

2. #Competence - Detecon as a brand stands for a high degree of competence and professionalism. I can now also confirm this from the customer's point of view.

3. #Commitment -  I have not met so many committed colleagues anywhere else.

Thank you very much for the interview, Alexander!
