Digitization Competencies in Municipalities

As part of the "Digital Model Regions" funding program, this study on the status quo in the area of digitization competencies of municipalities was conducted under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. Björn Niehaves on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitization and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIDE).

Between May and August 2020, a total of 396 cities and municipalities and 31 districts in NRW were surveyed online. The study aimed to identify current opportunities and challenges of digital competencies in public administrations in order to derive corresponding possibilities for action and to be able to successfully master the further process of digital transformation. The survey focused on questions about prerequisites, responsibilities, drivers and obstacles, topics and measures of digitalization competencies.

Many thanks to Felix Dinnessen for his contribution to this study.
