Detecon Alumni today
#WhatHappenedTo Professor Christian Czarnecki?
From when to when did you work at Detecon? What was your position?
I worked for Detecon from 2006 to 2015. In my last position I worked as Managing Consultant and Client Partner in the "International Telco Cluster". I have carried out many acquisitions and projects in the MENA Region.
What were the most exciting Detecon moments for you?
All in all, I enjoy remembering many exciting projects, interesting countries and great colleagues. During the first few years in Bonn, I was involved in a number of process projects for the management board. My first project abroad was in Abu Dhabi in 2008. After that, I managed projects in the Arab states and North Africa. Most of the time it was about reorganization, process management and the reference model eTOM.
What company do you work for today? What is your primary field of work there?
I am a professor for information systems at the Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. There I teach and conduct research on topics such as digital transformation, innovative business models, process management and enterprise architectures. Anyhow, in terms of content, the situation has not really changed a lot for me, as I continue to deal with similar topics as I did at Detecon. However, while my project work required concrete problem solutions, a large part of my work now consists of accompanying students during their academic education and at the start of their careers. This is also about teaching skills and methods that help in dealing with new innovations and technologies. Lifelong learning is becoming increasingly important. University studies should therefore provide a solid foundation for a professional career. While at Detecon I used to solve concrete challenges of digitalization for my clients, I now teach my students exactly these competences.
What did you particularly appreciate at Detecon and what do you miss from the "old days"?
I appreciated internationality, teamwork and creative freedom. Solving a variety of challenges in a team has always been fun for me. I can remember a day when I went to the Cologne office in the morning, and in the evening, I sat unsuspectingly on a plane to Dubai. There – at short notice – my colleagues from the MENA office have planned an appointment with a client. In a short time new challenges and opportunities arose repeatedly. It was this pace and flexibility combined with international teams that was a great experience. I still remember those days with pleasure.
