The Most Important Questions About Your Application and About Detecon as an Employer




Question 1: What academic background should I have when I apply for a position at Detecon?
Ideally a course of study which is characterized by technological and/or commercial focus such as (industrial) engineering, (commercial) information technology, or some branch of economics, and with above-average results in your final exams. If you have appropriate professional experience, other academic degrees such as law, natural sciences, etc., are also adequate qualification.

Question 2: What kind of recognition do you give to my Bachelor’s degree?
When you have a Bachelor's degree, we evaluate your entire curriculum vitae, including professional experience, just as with all other applications.

Question 3: What entry opportunities do you offer, and how do the individual career levels differ from one another?
Whether a graduate, professional, or experienced professional, Detecon offers the right tailored entry for everyone.  

The various career levels:
  • Business Analyst: Graduate who has his/her initial professional experience
  • Consultant: Consultant with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience
  • Senior Consultant: Consultant with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience
  • Managing Consultant: Consultant with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience
Due to our international orientation, we place special value on practical/professional experience abroad in individual departments.

Question 4: How should I apply for a position at Detecon?
We prefer online applications because we can administer the application process far more efficiently this way. You may use either our online application form which is found on our home page, or you may send us your application by e-mail.

Question 5: How does the application process at Detecon work?
If you receive an invitation from us, you can usually expect two rounds of interviews, during which you will meet your potential managers, other consultants, and representatives from the Human Resources department. During these discussions, you will have the opportunity to introduce yourself in detail to your listeners in the form of a presentation about yourself and to prove your professional expertise, possibly by preparing a case study.

Question 6: Is it possible to write a thesis or master’s thesis at Detecon? Is a previous internship a prerequisite for a final paper?
You are welcome to write your thesis at Detecon. We do not always specify the topics ourselves, but work with you to decide on a subject. So you should consider beforehand what area interests you and send us a brief description of the thematic field.

A previous internship is not a prerequisite for writing a final paper at Detecon.

Question 7: Can I serve as an intern at Detecon?
Yes, provided that you are prepared to serve an internship of at least 3 months.

Question 8: Can I earn my doctorate at Detecon?
Yes, we will provide individual support in consultation with the technical department in defining the subject, etc.

Question 9: Do you support an MBA?
We cooperate with the WHU in Vallendar to offer to outstanding consultants an MBA program parallel to their jobs.

Question 10: How are new employees integrated into operations at Detecon?
All new employees receive a welcome package containing all of the important information they require.

The "New Colleagues Day", when the most important heads and departments introduce themselves, serves as a first networking step and gives you an overview of the services offered by Detecon.

The integration of graduates and professionals is supplemented by our Young Consultant Network (YCN) - a worldwide forum of young consultants in which integration, networking, and development of young consultants is given top priority. The integration is rounded out by our mentoring program (see Question 12). Moreover, our new employees learn the consulting business by a "learning by doing" process in the project work - under the supervision of experienced consultants.

Question 11: What further training measures do you offer?
We offer training programs at each consultant level which are tailored to meet the requirements of the specific career level. Furthermore, this training program is supplemented by individual and specialist training programs.

Question 12: Is there a mentoring program?
Yes. Experienced consultants are available to young consultants during their entry phase in our company as trusted help when there are professional questions or in the event of problems in the vocational world for a period of one year.

Question 13: Can I work abroad?
We have many international projects, above all in non-European countries.

Assignments abroad are controlled by project staffing. In addition, we promote - especially for young consultants - exchanges with the locations abroad within the scope of the current Young Consultant Foreign Program.

Question 14: What opportunities are there for comparing notes with colleagues throughout the company?
We offer the following events for this purpose:
  • Office Day: company management answers employees' questions once a quarter
  • Detecon University: knowledge transfer from colleagues
  • YCN events: professional events within the framework of the young consultant organization
  • Networking Day: international meeting of the Detecon Group
In addition, the technical departments regularly meet with one another to "talk shop" and for an informal comparing of notes.

Question 15: Will I be directly integrated into project work as a newcomer to the profession?
Yes. Following an introductory period, business analysts are assigned straight to a team as full equals and work at the client's premises.

Question 16: How will I be used in the projects?
Staffing is handled by central staffing management on the basis of your profile. Our own internal network (e.g., YCN) will also help you to obtain assignments to interesting projects.

Question 17: How long do the projects last on an average?
We have a very broad palette, ranging from smaller projects (e.g., workshops) lasting only a few weeks to large-volume projects (e.g., buildup of a carrier) with a period of years.

Question 18: How many consultants work at Detecon?
We employ more than 650 consultants around the world.

Question 19: How would you describe your corporate culture?
We can describe ourselves as open-minded, performance-oriented, fair, honest, dynamic, and multicultural, organized with flat hierarchies. Since we are an international consulting company, we have an open culture in which diversity is highly valued. We benefit from this diversity because we learn much from one another.

Question 20: How would you describe your management culture?
