A Successful Application

Submitting a successful application is the first step. But what makes an application successful?

Your application documents are your calling card. Make sure that all of the documents are complete. Application documents include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and letters of reference, certifications, etc.

The Cover Letter 
The cover letter is often neglected or concocted out of standard phrases. But the cover letter creates the first impression and should awaken the person’s interest to continue reading. Add a personal note to your cover letter; convince us of your motivation and your personal goals. Tailor your cover letter individually to the position you are seeking, and establish a relationship between your qualifications and the described tasks. The cover letter should not be more than one page long.

The curriculum vitae
Your curriculum vitae should have a clear, chronological, and seamless structure. A clear framework, e.g., separated into individual topic blocks such as personal data, training, practical experience, etc., simplifies reading substantially. Your curriculum vitae can also be tailored specifically to the position by consistently pointing out the relationship to the position.  

The Letters of References, Certifications
The letters of reference, certifications, etc., document the individual stations in your life. You should also send a complete set of them with your online application (starting with your secondary school certificate). However, not every participation certificate, e.g., for computer courses, is absolutely necessary for the specific position. Many such qualifications are taken for granted today and need not be specifically documented.
