Data-based Business Models Will Define the Future
Industrial Internet promises a new, almost magical world – and a lot of money. When machines and devices exchange measurement values and sensor data and steer entire transactions autonomously, the companies earn right along with them. But who really earns anything? It is a fact: as of today, not one telecommunications or industrial company has managed to record significant revenues from M2M. A review of the current situation shows, however, that data-based business models will define the future; Industry 4.0 is an important concept for securing Germany’s position as an industrial power; and growth of the “Industrial Internet” market is beginning to gather steam. The hurdles that have stood in its way such as security and data protection, interoperability, and even its simple use from the consumers’ perspective are at the focal point of companies and research institutes. Every achievement in the establishment of integrable standards improves the general conditions for the exploitation of tremendous market potential. This will give industries such as automotive, high-tech and health, and of course telecommunications an edge over the competition. And Industrial Internet is the source of new stimuli for retail trade as well. In any case, we consumers can look forward to exciting application scenarios – it’s all about magic!
